Vega hotspots in Madrid are plentiful! During my stay in Madrid to learn Spanish, I naturally had to eat some food. Unfortunately, I didn’t have a lot of time, but luckily enough time to try out some vega(n) restaurants. Below are my top 3 places you really must have eaten vegetarian or vegan!
Vega hotspots in Madrid nummero 1# Viva Burger
I received this tip from my Spanish teacher. She also eats vegetarian and vegan regularly. How coincidental! Fortunately, they don’t just have civilians. Your choices include: wraps, salads and burgers. Everything on the menu is vegan. They have delicious coffee but you can also come here for a drink. The nice thing is that you can also sit outside on the terrace. Lovely when the sun is shining! I found it pleasantly crowded. The service was friendly. And I also liked the toilet. In short, I would definitely go here again when I am in Madrid.

Nummero 2# La Encomienda
This little restaurant/lunch spot is a bit hidden on the eponymous street Ecomienda. Hiply decorated and packed around 2 p.m. At least, when I was there. The menu is extensive and completely plant-based. You can choose from the menu, but there is also a menu del día. This one costs about 12 euros. You then get a vegan 3-course lunch! Atmosphere is nice. I did find the dishes on the menu a bit expensive given the small portions. I recommend opting for the menu del día. Service is friendly and quick.

Nummero 3 #Vegan Bar Pura Vida
Near La Encomienda is this bar. Here, too, you have a menu del día. And you can go here for Spanish vegan tapas. Whohoo!

Numbero 4#Level Bistro
Heard good stories about it. You can sit outside and inside. Unfortunately, not enough time to eat there myself. I arrived late. They were already closing. Have you been here? Love to hear your experiences!

Numbero 5#Cooking for yourself
Don’t you want to eat out? But just cooking for yourself? There are differences vega- and vegan-friendly supermarkets. One I liked was NaturaSí, near Nuevos Ministerios metro station (linea 2 and 6). Is pricey, though. There are other health stores in Madrid, though.
